My dad and I were talking about a poem that he had written when he was a kid. It was about eating a slice of plain bread, trying to hide it so nobody would see. It's about the rigidity of what is considered "normal". Another kid points out how weird it is that he is eating plain bread.
My mom is always worrying about me, thinking that I don't go out enough. But if I am an intellectual, who enjoys solitary activity and personal growth, then what is wrong with that? Shouldn't I be allowed to be myself?

Can I Tell You A Secret?
Sometimes you will just feel sad. Unexplainable, irrational sadness sweeping over like a cloud of dust. And then a ray of sunshine, and then a few tears. Why is everything so chaotic? Is it only for some of us? Or is it a feeling we all have experience with?

Adolescence
As I begin my last year in high school I am reminiscent of the 4 years I have spent so much of my time. High school, a completely unrealistic environment full of fakes and attention seekers. With hostile ways of seeking approval, very few kids ever exhibit their true selves. Wishing to follow the trends and not wanting to be different than the rest.
Somehow only living for a short period of time, many teenagers suffer from a superiority complex. Groups are formed inside the schools based on interests but each one believing that they are better than all others. Some create names for their groups such as "The Dirty Dozen" and "Seventeen and Easy". These names are made because of weakness and fear of peers. They wish to put a strong front by degrading themselves. Kind of defeats the purpose if you ask me...
Others have little control of their personal ego. They update their facebook page daily with new photos of themselves and expect everyone to listen to their opinions and views. Some think they are mentally above everyone and in projects insist on doing everything themselves.
In the real world, I never expect to be in this same environment again. A random group of kids put together solely because they have a similar birthdate. We all lack similar values and interests unless having chosen the school for a particular purpose. Luckily for me, I picked a school that has well suited my needs (for the past two years anyway). Although more feeling-conscious than necessary it has inspiring academics and nice-enough peers. At least as far as I know...
Still, I am anticipating graduating and attending a larger school where I can live with more anonymity.
